CaseWare RCM Donates to Polaris to Combat and Modern-Day Slavery and Trafficking
Funds will be support efforts to disrupt human trafficking networks and help survivors
Toronto, Canada (October 24, 2019) – CaseWare RCM Inc., a provider of financial crime detection and prevention solutions and a division of CaseWare International Inc., has made a donation to Polaris to support its efforts to systematically disrupt human trafficking networks and help survivors restore their freedom, prevent more victims and leverage data and technology to pursue human traffickers wherever they operate.
The funds were collected as part of CaseWare RCM’s presence at the ACAMS 18th Annual AML & Financial Crime Conference, where a sum of $25 was donated towards supporting the Polaris hotline and textline for every attendee who visited the Alessa booth.
“Polaris operates the National Human Trafficking Hotline in the United States and receives approximately 300 calls per day from survivors of human trafficking and community members. We connect them with the resources and support they need to stay safe. Being in contact with this many people over the last 12 years has guided us in our goal to eradicate this crime” said Sara Crowe, Strategic Initiatives Director, Financial Systems at Polaris.
The International Labor Organization estimates that forced labor and human trafficking is a $150 billion industry worldwide and there are 40.3 million victims of human trafficking globally, of which 81 percent of them are trapped in forced labor, 25 percent of them are children and 75 percent are women and girls.
More than 49,000 total cases of human trafficking have been reported to the Polaris hotline in the last 10 years.
“Part of our mandate in combatting financial crimes is to detect and prevent the financing of illegal activities, such as human trafficking,” says Andrew Simpson, Chief Operating Officer at CaseWare RCM. “By collecting donations at the ACAMS conference, not only were we able to help Polaris financially; we also helped to raise awareness of the work being done by the organization to disrupt human trafficking networks and help victims.”
